What you eat has an effect on all organs of the body and including your brain. If you want to improve your memory, you have to think about your meals and the consequences.

According to research, the intake of foods with high levels of saturated fats and cholesterol impairs the ability to remember things. The accumulation of fats reduces the power to think clearly and act in the same manner and hence, all efforts to improve memory will not work until there is a change of diet.

Other foods that contain components that are not good for the overall health of the mind include processed foods like sweets, cakes, cookies, candies, and French Fries. In essence, red and purple-colored foodstuffs have a phytochemical called anthocyanin that is essential for the mind. If you want to improve your memory, then you have to incorporate these foods in your meal. They include blueberries, cherries, eggplant, red grapes, and red apples and onions.

Quercetin

In addition, apples, onions, broccoli, and grapes have quercetin, an antioxidant that protects the body from Alzheimer’s disease. It is strange that most of these foods can be consumed without cooking or other preparation methods, yet most people do not consume them as they should so that they can improve their memory. In some parts of the world where medical therapy involves nutrition, for example in Asia, mostly India, onions are added to the prescription for a person whose ability to recall is dwindling. Nutrition offers the easiest and most creative way to improve memory because a person can prepare these foods in many delicious ways.

Lycopene, Zinc, Folic Acid

Tomatoes are also recommended because of lycopene, an antioxidant that protects the body from free radicals that harm the cells during the growth stages of disorders like dementia. Zinc is another metal that is vital if a person wants to improve memory, and one of the sources for this is pumpkin seeds. The effect of most of these foods is seen as soon as they are taken regularly because the system adjusts accordingly. Whole grains also assist in this process because they contain folic acid, a component that will improve memory.

Vitamin C, Omega 3 Oils

Other foods include blackcurrants as a source of Vitamin C, fish to give the body sufficient levels of Omega 3 oils as well as Rosemary to prevent brain disorders. Most people know that taking a balanced meal boosts overall health, but they do not know what particular foods do to their bodies and how to use this knowledge to protect the body.
